Project and Product Assurance

Assurance objectives:
  • periodic independent 'health check' of all aspects of the project
  • compare actual work practices vs best practice
  • audit the quality systems for 'defect prevention' and 'continuous improvement'
  • audit the product acceptance process
Assurance methods:

For a small project, consider using peer reviews and post implementation reviews to achieve the above objectives.

For medium and large projects, consider additionally the use of independent external auditors or project assurers.

Build into Plans

The assurance approach should be agreed by the Project Board, who will appoint any independent auditors.

Provision for peer reviews, post implementation reviews etc. should be built into project plans.
