Organisation and Set Up
"Question...how do projects get late?...Answer...one day at a time!"
Once the project has been given the go ahead, it is essential to make the key appointments and establish the project quickly and on a sound basis.
The main areas to address in project organisation and set up are:
- Appoint key people and allocate responsibility for early stages and major deliverables.
- Define key skill requirements and initial staffing levels; start recruiting and if necessary training.
- Acquire other resources and facilities such as accommodation space, computing facilities, contractors etc.
- Establish an initial Project Management Plan to define how planning, reporting, assurance, change control and other exceptions will be handled, and establish the responsibilities for implementing the plan.
- Establish the methods for communication and collaboration to ensure effective team work and open information to the affected or interested communities.
