Organisation and Set Up

"Question...how do projects get late?...Answer...one day at a time!"

Once the project has been given the go ahead, it is essential to make the key appointments and establish the project quickly and on a sound basis.

The main areas to address in project organisation and set up are:

  1. Appoint key people and allocate responsibility for early stages and major deliverables.
  2. Define key skill requirements and initial staffing levels; start recruiting and if necessary training.
  3. Acquire other resources and facilities such as accommodation space, computing facilities, contractors etc.
  4. Establish an initial Project Management Plan to define how planning, reporting, assurance, change control and other exceptions will be handled, and establish the responsibilities for implementing the plan.
  5. Establish the methods for communication and collaboration to ensure effective team work and open information to the affected or interested communities.
