Project Definition

The project definition describes the purpose of the project and how it will be organised and managed. A Project Definition Report (PDR) should be produced, and signed up to by all the stakeholders. The PDR should include the following sections:
  • Goals & Objectives
  • Scope & Work Structure
  • Organisation
  • Management Processes & Systems
  • Key milestones and imperatives
  • Risks & Assumptions
  • Start-up Actions

A Project Definition Workshop with an independent facilitator is often used to complete the PDR and gain consensus of the sponsors and stakeholders.

"An undefined project cannot be managed...an unmanaged project usually fails!!"
